ไวยากรณ์ 4 — Comparisons (การเปรียบเทียบ)

คำคุณศัพท์ (Adjective) หรือคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ (Adverb) สามารถนำมาเปรียบเทียบได้ 3 ระดับ:
Positive Degree ขั้นปกติ  →  Comparative Degree ขั้นกว่า  →  Superlative Degree ขั้นสูงสุด

1. Positive Degree (ขั้นปกติ) — เปรียบเทียบว่า "เท่ากัน" หรือ "ไม่เท่ากัน" ใช้รูปเดิม

แสดงความเท่ากัน:
โครงสร้าง 1: as + adj/adv + as = "เท่ากับ / เหมือนกัน"
Sam is as tall as Ken. · His car runs as fast as a race car.

โครงสร้าง 2: the same + noun + as = "เหมือนกัน/เช่นเดียวกับ"
This apple is the same size as that orange.

แสดงความไม่เท่ากัน:
โครงสร้าง: not as + adj/adv + as = "ไม่เหมือนกับ" (เติม quite/nearly ได้)
Ann cannot sing so loudly as Tony. · These shoes are not nearly as comfortable as my old ones.

2. Comparative Degree (ขั้นกว่า) — เปรียบเทียบระหว่าง 2 สิ่ง โครงสร้าง: ... + than
The living room is wider than the bedroom.
European cars are more expensive than Japanese cars.

3. Superlative Degree (ขั้นสูงสุด) — เปรียบเทียบว่า "ที่สุดใน _" ต้องมี the นำหน้าเสมอ
Tom is the oldest man in this town.
Nadech is the most handsome guy in my mind.

หลักการเปลี่ยนรูปคำ Comparative & Superlative

กฎที่ 1: คำพยางค์น้อย (1 พยางค์) → เติม -er / -est
short→shorter→the shortest · tall→taller→the tallest · cheap→cheaper→cheapest · fast→faster→fastest

กฎที่ 2: พยางค์เดียว สระสั้น+พยัญชนะท้าย → เพิ่มพยัญชนะซ้ำ+-er/-est
hot→hotter→the hottest · fat→fatter→fattest · big→bigger→biggest

กฎที่ 3: ลงท้าย -y (หน้า y = พยัญชนะ) → y→i แล้วเติม -er/-est
happy→happier→happiest · busy→busier→busiest · dirty→dirtier→dirtiest · noisy→noisier→noisiest

กฎที่ 4: คำ 2+ พยางค์ → ใช้ more / the most
expensive→more expensive→the most expensive · beautiful→more beautiful→the most beautiful
interesting→more interesting→the most interesting · carefully→more carefully→the most carefully
