→ The girl eats pizza.  |  The girls eat pizza.

2.1 คำกลุ่ม "และ" — กริยาขึ้นกับประธานตัวแรก

คำเหล่านี้ถือเป็นเอกพจน์เสมอ แม้จะตามด้วยนามพหูพจน์
→ Each student has a textbook.
→ Each of the students has a textbook.
→ Every teacher works hard.
→ Neither of the answers is correct.

Either...or / Neither...nor — กริยาขึ้นกับประธานที่อยู่ใกล้ที่สุด

→ Either Tom or his friends are responsible. (friends = ใกล้สุด → พหูพจน์)
→ Neither the students nor the teacher was late. (teacher = ใกล้สุด → เอกพจน์)

The number of... (เอกพจน์) กับ A number of... (พหูพจน์)

→ The number of students is 30. (= จำนวน → เอกพจน์)
→ A number of students are absent today. (= หลายคน → พหูพจน์)
